1840:
Riverside Park opens.
Early 1930's:
The park closes during the Great Depression.
1940:
Riverside Park is purchased and re-opens.
1941:
Cyclone (wooden roller coaster) is added.
1974:
Wildcat (Schwarzkopf steel roller coaster) is added.
1977:
Black Widow (Arrow shuttle loop steel roller coaster) is added.
1979:
Red River Rapids (Arrow log flume) is added.
1983:
Riverside Cyclone (wooden roller coaster) is added.
The original Cyclone is renamed Thunderbolt.
Wildcat is removed at the end of the season and relocated to
Rocky Point Park, where it is renamed Cyclone.
1992:
Skycoaster (up-charge attraction) is added.
1996:
The Great Chase (Miler children's steel roller coaster) is added.
1997:
Premier Parks, Inc. purchases Riverside.
Mind Eraser (Vekoma SLC) is added.
Shipwreck Falls (Intamin Spillwater shoot-the-chute ride) is
added.
Twister (Huss Top Spin) is added.
Time Warp (Vekoma Air Jumper) is added.
Chaos (Chance Chaos) is added.
1998:
Island Kingdom (water park) is added.
Hellevator (20-story S&S Turbo Drop tower) is added.
Rodeo (Huss Break Dance) is added.
1999:
Blizzard River (Hopkins white water rafting ride) is added.
Kontiki (Chance Flying Bobs) is added.
Double Trouble (Chance Double Inverter) is added.
Tea Cups are added.
A new theme area, Crackaxle Canyon, is added
and features:
o Tomahawk (Huss Frisbee),
o Houdini - The Great Escape (Vekoma
Mad House),
o Stampede (bumper cars) and
o Rodeo (Huss Break Dance).
The water park, Island Kingdom, sees the addition of Hurricane
Bay (wave pool) and Shark Attack (water slides).
Black Widow and Little Rickies Little Twister are removed
at the end of the season.
After the season, the park is renamed Six Flags New England.
2000:
DC SuperHero Adventures, a 12-acre theme
area, is added and includes:
o Superman: Ride of Steel (Intamin
steel "hyper" roller coaster),
o Poison Ivy's Tangled Train (Tivoli figure-eight steel family
coaster),
o Joker's Wild Card (an enclosed
Chance Wipeout) and
o Batman Thrill Spectacular (stunt
show) in a new amphitheater.
Flashback (Vekoma Boomerang steel roller coaster) is added after
having been relocated from Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, where it
operated as the Vampire.
Two more "legs" are added to Hellevator, converting it into both a
shot and drop tower, and it's renamed Scream!
Nightwing (Huss Fly Away) is added.
Riverside Cyclone's original Morgan trains are replaced
with PTC trains.
2001:
Buzzsaw (Huss Magic Carpet) is added.
Tiny Timber Town, a new children's theme
area, is added.
Red River Rapids is renamed Poland Springs Plunge.
Riverside Cyclone's first drop is reprofiled and shortened by
about 15 feet.
In August, two trains collide in the station on Superman: Ride of
Steel, causing minor injuries to eight people.
2002:
Batman: The Dark Knight (B&M floorless steel roller coaster) is
added.
2003: The water
park, Island Kingdom, is expanded and renamed Hurricane Harbor.
New attractions include:
- Hurricane Falls, a slide complex with 6 slides,
- Geronimo and Zooma Falls (speed slides),
- Tornado (tube slide with a funnel) and
- Monsoon Lagoon (second wave pool).
Admission this year is $39.99. Parking is $10.00
2005: Mr. Six’s
Pandemonium (Gerstlauer Spinning Coaster) added in
North End. Typhoon (Proslide
Technology Inc. Rocket slide) added in
Hurricane Harbor. Two-person "whirl wheel" tubes are added to
Tornado, in addition to the cloverleaf tubes.
Admission this year is $41.99. Parking is $10.00.
