 Six Flags Mexico

   Reino Aventura  

1982:

Adventure Kingdom, the first theme park in Mexico, is inaugurated.

Located to the south of Mexico City, in the environs of the forest of Tlalpan, Adventure Kingdom opens its doors with 6 theme areas: Mexican Town, Cattle Town, French Town, Polynesian Town, Swiss town and Childs Town, which feature the following attractions:

  o Merry-go-round
  o Panoramic wheel (Ferris Wheel)
  o Alpine Flight (Wave Swinger)
  o The Mansion of Weeping (the Dark Ride/ Ghost Train)
  o Cinema 180°
  o Hit Man's (Bumper Cars)
  o Marine Kingdom (Dolphin and Sea Lions Show)
  o Krakatoa Canoe (Pirate Ship)
  o Cyclop (Enterprise)
  o Catarina Mountain (Family Coaster)
  o Samoa Theater (Hawaiían Show)
  o Cabin of the Crooked Uncle
  o Flight of Cornelio (Ride like Dumbo The Flying Elephant)
  o Marine Monster (Octopus)
  o Toucan Theater (Bird Show) 
  o Roulette (Trabant)

Cornelio, the dragon, is the official mascot of Adventure Kingdom.

Mexico's first Vekoma Boomerang roller coaster is installed in the city of Puebla.
 


1985:

The whale Keiko arrives at Adventure Kingdom, brought to Mexico after living in a park in Canada.  The Marine Kingdom is transformed into the home of Keiko, who together with the dragon Cornelio, are the park mascots.
 


1986:

Boomerang is transported from Puebla to Adventure Kingdom and its re-construction begins.
 


1987:

Boomerang opens in the Polynesian Town section.
 


1991:

Ten years after its opening, Adventure Kingdom closes its doors and initiates a stage of remodeling and innovation.

Marine Monster and Flight of Cornelio are removed.

Roulette and Merry-go-round are moved to the Polynesian Town.
 


1992:

The park reopens its doors with the name of "The New Adventure Kingdom".  New mascots are presented/displayed: Pomponio, Kikín and Patuga.  Cornelio stops being the official mascot.

New attractions:

   o Unexpected Travels (Simulator, French Town)
   o River Salvaje (Rapid River, Mexican Town)
   o Formula 1 (Car Ride, Polynesian Town)
   o Music Express (Swiss Town)
   o Hollywood Star (Swiss Town)
   o Adventure Karts (Go Karts, Cattle town)
   o Cinema 3rd Dimension (Mexican Town)
   o Rustic Theater (Polynesian Town)
   o The New Kingdom of the Laughter (Fun House, Swiss town)

Boomerang is renamed Scorpion.

Cyclop is renamed Enterprise.

Catarina Mountain is renamed Flying Catarina.

Toucan Theater becomes Polynesian Theater.


1993:

Moroccan Town, a new theme area, is added.

Splash (Shoot-The-Chutes) opens in Moroccan Town.

The Mansion of the Weeping closes for remodeling, then reopens.

Roller, the parks third roller coaster, is added in Swiss Town.  Roller is a Vekoma Junior Coaster (207m).

Hurricane (Vekoma Waikiki Wave Super Flip) opens in the Cattle Town.

Keiko is chosen to star in the film "Free Willy".


1994:

Two new attractions open:

Space Shot (S&S Space Shot, with only 8 seats) in the Polynesian Town.

The Passage of the Terror (Dark Ride) in the Cattle Town.

Some new kiddie rides are added in Childs Town:

Stupid Globe (Zamperla Balloons) and

Kingdom Jet (Crazy Sub airplane themed)
 


1995:

There is a change in the administration of the park which results in some changes, among them to re-introduction of Cornelio the Dragoon as the park's mascot.  Also, the park returns to the old name of Adventure Kingdom.

Due to the release of the film "Free Willy," a group of environmentalists proposes the liberation of Keiko.  The park wants the public to be able to say goodbye to the whale first.
 


1996:

After several events organized for Keiko's goodbye, the whale is transported from Adventure Kingdom to the Oregon Coast Aquarium in the United States.

The "Festival of the Century" is made a great organized event to
celebrate the 100 years of the Mexican cinema.
 


1997:

Adventure Kingdom celebrates its 15-year anniversary.

Enterprise is removed after a fatal accident.

Passage of the Terror is renamed Diabolic Gallery.

Kingdom of the Laughter is renamed House of Mario Bros.

Cinema 180° is transformed into Laser Kingdom.

Merry-go-round is moved to French Town.

Cinema 3rd Dimension becomes Mario Cantinflas Brown Theater.

Lake Ventures opens. (Moroccan Town, next to the Splash)
 


1998:

Virtual Odyssey is added in the Moroccan Town next to the
Scorpion.


1999:

Premier Parks purchases Adventure Kingdom.

It's announced that the park will become Six Flags Mexico.

Karts Adventure, Space Shot, Hollywood Star and Merry-go-round are removed.

Roulette is moved to the Cattle Town.

Scorpion retakes the name of Boomerang.

The Mansion of the Weeping is remodeled.

Diabolic Gallery and Virtual Odyssey are closed.

Moroccan Town is remodeled and renamed Hollywood.

Laser Kingdom is removed.

Childs Town becomes Bugs Bunny's Circus.

2000:

Six Flags Mexico opens its doors:

New Attractions:

   o Batman The Ride (Vekoma SLC) in Hollywood.
   o Medusa (CCI wooden roller coaster) Cattle Town (in the place of the Go Karts)
   o Kilahuea (Three-legged S&S Tower) Polynesian Town
   o The Healer (SBF Space Gun Floorless) Polynesian Town
   o Vudú (SBF Dance Party) Polynesian Town
   o The Celebration of the Cups (SBF Tea Cups) Mexican Town
   o Crazy Fragmentation Hand Grenade (Huss Crazy Pineapple) Polynesian Town
   o Catapult (Chance Double Inverter) Swiss Town
   o Chaos (Chance Chaos) Swiss Town
   o Hollywood Tours (Antique Cars) Hollywood
   o Looney Tunes Villa (Mini Free fall) Bugs Bunny's Circus
   o Hollywood Race Track (Go Karts) Hollywood
   o Santa Fe Train ( Park Train) Cattle Town
   o Double Carousel in the French Town
   o Rock & Roll (Octopus cadillacs themed) Hollywood.
   o The House of Cornelio (area of children's celebrations adjacent to Hollywood)

Panoramic Wheel is renamed India Wheel.

Flying Catarina is renamed Tsunami.

Rustic Theater is renamed Gothic Theater.


2001:

The park announces that it's building a Morgan "Hyper" coaster, to be named Superman: The Escape.

In November, the project is cancelled after the park is fined for the illegal cutting of trees in the adjacent ecological reserve.

The Wall (Wall Rock) is added in the Hollywood section.


2002:

Six Flags Mexico faces an economic crisis due to the large fine that is issued to the park by the government of the city. The pieces of Superman are transported to a non-visible area while the park pays the debt and arranges the permissions for the construction.

Turbo Bungy opens in Hollywood.


2003:

The House of Cornelio is removed.


2004:

Almost 3 years after the suspension of the Superman project, the construction of this hyper-coaster begins again.

Unexpected Trip changes to SpongeBob SquarePants 3D.

Superman: The Ultimate Escape (Morgan steel hyper coaster) opens on November 18th.
