 Fiesta Texas

1992:

·        Park opens on March 14, built inside an abandoned rock quarry in Northwest San Antonio by USAA and managed by Gaylord Entertainment (owners of Opryland).

·        Original theme sections – Los Festivales, Crackaxle Canyon, Spassburg, Rockville and Ol’ Waterin Hole water park.

·        Original major rides:

o       The Rattler (John Pierce/RCCA wooden roller coaster) in Crackaxle Canyon, opens with worlds largest drop on a wooden roller coaster, re-profiled several times in the following years, no longer has the worlds largest drop.

o       The Gully Washer (Hopkins Rapids water ride) in Crackaxle Canyon.

o       Die Fledermaus (Zierer Wave Swinger) in Spassburg.

o       Dornroschen (Morgan Carousel) in Spassburg.

o       Der Fliegenzirkus (kiddie airplane ride) in Spassburg.

o       Steingasse (Morgan Bumper Cars) in Spassburg.

o       Der Rollschuhcoaster (Vekoma Junior Coaster/Roller Skater kiddie roller coaster) in Spassburg.

o       Der Fliegenzirkus (Zamperla Red Baron – kiddie bi-plane ride) in Spassburg.

o       Kinderbahn (Zamperla? kiddie convoy ride) in Spassburg.

o       Kinder Wagen (kiddie bumper cars) in Spassburg.

o       Rennsporplatz (kiddie roller racers/scooters) in Spassburg – removed in 1997.

o       Motorama Turnpike (Morgan car ride) in Rockville.

o       The Hustler (Morgan spinning ride) in Rockville.

o       The Power Surge (Hopkins Shoot the Chute water ride) in Rockville.

o       Train with stops in Crackaxle Canyon (Whistle Stop) and in Spassburg (Der Pilger Bahnhof).

·        Original attractions in Ol’ Waterin Hole:

o       Splash Water Springs (kiddie area)

o       Texas Tumble (family raft ride)

o       White Water Canyon (lazy river)

o       The Six Chuter (open tube slide)

o       The Mine Shaft (enclosed tube slide)

o       The Blow Out (body speed slide)

o       The Twister (enclosed body slide)

o       The Triple Dipper (two body slides with three humps) – removed in 2003

o       The Gusher (two open raft slides – wet/dry slides) – removed in 2000

o       Pipeline (two enclosed raft slides – wet/dry slides) – removed in 2000


1993:

·        Various park improvements.


1994:

·        Fiesta Bay Boardwalk section opens includes:

o       Crow’s Nest Ferris Wheel (Chance Ferris Wheel)

o       S.S. Overboard (Zamperla Galleon)

o       Wave Runner (Eli Bridge Scrambler)

o       Little Castaways (Ride Works kiddie tea cups)

o       The Wipeout (Chance Wipeout) – closed in 2003, not removed

o       Cap’n Willie’s Shrimpboat (kiddie swinging ship) – removed in 1998

o       Screamin’ Skycoaster (extra charge) – removed in 2001

o       Bayside Paddle Boats (extra charge) – removed in 1997

o       Seaside Golf (extra charge mini golf) – removed in 1998


1995:

·        Various park improvements.

1996:

·        Park managed by Six Flags Inc. (Time Warner), still owned by USSA. 

·        Park name changed to Six Flags Fiesta Texas, becomes 8th Six Flags park.

·        Joker’s Revenge (Vekoma Hurricane with backwards facing trains) opens in Fiesta Bay Boardwalk. – removed in 2002

·        Wagon Wheel (Schwarzkopf Enterprise) opens in Crackaxle Canyon, moved from Six Flags Over Texas.

·        4 new attractions are added in Ol’ Waterin Hole (water park):

o       Ol’ Swimmin’ Hole (family activity area)

o       Crackaxle Springs (“adult” activity area)

o       Tadpole Pond (kiddie pool) – removed in 1998

o       Sandy Bottoms (beach volleyball area) – removed in 1998


1997:

·        Road Runner Express (Arrow Dynamics Mine Train) opens in Crackaxle Canyon.

·        Rennsporplatz removed after season.

·        Bayside Paddle Boats removed after season.


1998:

·        Six Flags Inc. (Premier Parks) purchases the park from USSA.

·        Bugs’ White Water Rapids (Hopkins Super Flume water ride) opens in Spassburg.

·        Der Twister (Huss Top Spin) opens in Spassburg.

·        Frisbee (Huss Frisbee) opens in Fiesta Bay Boardwalk.

·        Tadpole Pond removed after season.

·        Sandy Bottoms removed after season.

·        Cap’n Willie’s Shrimpboat removed after season.

·        Seaside Golf removed after season.


1999:

·        Boomerang (Vekoma Boomerang roller coaster) opens in Los Festivales.

·        Rodeo Rider (S & S Frog Hopper – kiddie drop ride) opens in Crackaxle Canyon.

·        Yosemite Sam’s Wacky Wagons (Zamperla Mini Ferris Wheel – kiddie ride) opens in Crackaxle Canyon.

·        Foghorn Leghorn’s Barnyard Railway (Zamperla Rio Grande – kiddie train ride) opens in Crackaxle Canyon.

·        Daffy’s Duckaneer (Zamperla? kiddie swinging ship) opens in Crackaxle Canyon. – removed in 2000

·        Mini Tea Cup (Zamperla Mini Tea Cups – kiddie ride) opens in Spassburg.

·        Poltergeist (Premier Rides LIM roller coaster) opens in Rockville.

·        Chaos (Chance Chaos) opens in Rockville.

·        Scream! (3 S & S combo tower complex) opens in Rockville.

·        Daffy’s School Bus Express (Zamperla Crazy Bus – kiddie ride) opens in Rockville.

·        Taz’s Tornado (Zamperla Lolly Swing – kiddie swing ride) opens in Rockville.

·        Go-Karts (extra charge) opens in Fiesta Bay Boardwalk.

·        Ol’ Waterin Hole water park name changed to Armadillio Beach, 2 new attractions:

o       Texas Treehouse (family activity area)

o       Lone Star Lagoon (Texas shaped wave pool)

·        Pipeline and The Gusher slides both removed from Armadillo Beach after season.

·        Park wins Amusement Today’s Golden Ticket award for “Best Theme Park Shows”.


2000:

·        Superman Krypton Coaster (B & M Floorless roller coaster) opens in Spassburg.       

·        Boardwalk Canyon Blaster (Zierer Tivoli family roller coaster) is sent to park and is on park map, but the ride is never built, the coaster opens in 2002 at Warner Bros. Movie World in Madrid, Spain (owned by Six Flags at the time).

·        Daffy’s Duckaneer removed after season.

·        Park wins Amusement Today’s Golden Ticket award for “Best Theme Park Shows”.


2001:

·        The Blow Out name changed to The Ozarka Splash.

·        Turbo Bungy (Eurobungy extra charge bungee/trampoline) opens in Crackaxle Canyon.

·        Screamin’ Skycoaster removed.

·        Park wins Amusement Today’s Golden Ticket award for “Best Theme Park Shows”.


2002:

·        Scooby-Doo! Ghostblasters – The Mystery Of The Haunted Mansion (Sally Corp. interactive family dark ride) opens in Fiesta Bay Boardwalk, replaces an arcade.

·        Tempest (Gravity Works Skyscraper extra charge) opens where Screamin’ Skycoaster was in Fiesta Bay Boardwalk.

·        Rodeo Rider name changed to Lil’ Bronco Buster.

·        Poltergeist trains redesigned to have lap bars only.

·        Joker’s Revenge is SBNO the entire season and is removed after season, sent to Six Flags New Orleans – The Jester.

·        The Triple Dipper is removed from Armadillo Beach after season.

·        Park wins Amusement Today’s Golden Ticket award for “Best Theme Park Shows”.


2003:

·        Mini Tea Cup name changed to Kinderstein.

·        The Wipeout is closed.

·        Park wins Amusement Today’s Golden Ticket award for “Best Theme Park Shows”.


2004:

·        Tornado (Proslide Technology Inc. Tornado) – funnel shaped tube slide that uses cloverleaf tubes added in Armadillo Beach.

·        Park wins Amusement Today's Golden Ticket award for "Best Theme Park Shows".

·        Admission this year is $39.99.  Parking is $8.00.


2005: 

·        Motorama Turnpike name shortened to Motorama.

·        Crackaxle Springs is closed.

·        Lights are added on Boomerang's lift hill.

·        A new train, "Gretta",  is added for the railroad.

·        Frisbee and Der Twister are refurbished.

·        Poltergeist's trains are refurbished.

·        Two-person "whirl wheel" tubes are added to Tornado in addition to the cloverleaf tubes.

·        Various buildings and railings are repainted.

·        Admission this year is $41.99.  Parking is $8.00.
