Six Flags America

  Wild World 

1982:

·        Park opens in Largo, Maryland as basically a water park with a few other rides.


1982-1990:

·        The following rides are located in the water park (named Paradise Island today)  many were probably added when the park opened or during this time period, some may have opened between 1992-1994, need the exact year for each ride:

o       Bonzai Pipeline (half enclosed/half open body slide)

o       Black Hole (enclosed body slide)

o       Caribbean Cannonball Flume (small drop slide)

o       Castaway Creek (lazy river)

o       Kids’ Cove (kiddie area)

o       Kids’ Flumes (kiddie slides)

o       Lily Pad Walk

o       Luau Loop (small body slide)

o       Monsoon Lagoon (wave pool)

o       Rainbow Falls (red, blue, beige and yellow twisting body slides)

o       Tahiti Twister (two open/enclosed tube slides)


1986: 

·        Wild One (John Miller designed, Dinn Corporation built wooden coaster) opens, this ride was moved from Paragon Park where it operated since 1917.


1991: 

·        Park goes bankrupt late in 1990 and does not open at all this season.


1992: 

·        Tierco Group, Inc. (Premier Parks Inc., now Six Flags Inc.) purchases the park and reopens the park under the same Wild World name.  


1992-1994:  

·        The themed areas of the park are Main Gate/International Plaza, Pirate’s Cove, Coyote Creek, Moroccan Village and A Day At The Circus (kiddie area).

·        The following rides opened during this time period, some may have been original rides that opened between 1982-1990, need the exact year for each ride:

o       Carousel

o       Great Race (antique cars)

o       Tea Cups (Zamperla Tea Cups)

o       Flying Carousel (Zierer Wave Swinger)

o       Around the World in 80 Days (small Ferris Wheel)

o       World Wind (stand-up roundup ride)

o       Scrambler (Eli Bridge Scrambler)

o       Falling Star (Chance Falling Star)

o       Iron Eagle (Zamperla Rotoshake)

o       Shipwreck Falls (Intamin Shoot the Chute water ride)

o       Pirate’s Flight (small swings ride)

o       High Seas (swinging ship)

o       Tilt-A-Whirl

o       Renegade Rapids (Intamin Rapids water ride)

o       Bumper Cars

o       Curving Dervish (himalya style ride) – removed in 1995

o       SkyEscaper (Huss Enterprise) – removed in 2002

o       Adventure World railroad (used only for catered picnics today)

·        The following are the names of the kiddie rides located in the A Day At The Circus kiddie area (don’t know the types of rides for all):

o       Cannonball (Molina & Son’s kiddie roller coaster) – removed in 1998

o       Lions’ Den Bumper Cars

o       The Juggler

o       Roller Racers

o       Kiddie Bumper Boats

o       Lippazanion Stallions

o       Flying Trapeze

o       Clown Town

o       Circus Train

o       Clown Around

o       Balloon Flight

o       Aerial Elephants


1993: 

·        Python (Arrow Dynamics Launched Loop roller coaster) opens in Moroccan Village, was one half of the Lightning Loops at Six Flags Great Adventure – removed in 1998.


  Adventure World 

1994:  

·        Park name is changed to Adventure World and water park is renamed Paradise Island.  


1995:   

·        The Mind Eraser (Vekoma SLC roller coater) opens in Coyote Creek.

·        Curving Dervish removed after season.


 


1996:

·        Pirate’s Flight moved to former site of Curving Dervish.

·        Scrambler moved to where Pirate’s Flight was located.

·        Tower Of Doom (Intamin Giant Drop) opens where Scrambler was located in Moroccan Village.

·        Sahara Speedway (extra charge Go-Karts) opens in Moroccan Village.


1997 or 1998:

·        Scrambler name changed to Cyclone, which year?


1997:

·        Typhoon Sea Coaster (Intamin Reversing Boat Ride 8 water ride) opens in the new Skull Island theme area.

·        Crocodile Cal’s Outback Beach House (family activity area) opens in Paradise Island water park.


1998:

·        Roar! (GCI wooden roller coaster) opens in Skull Island.

·        Python is removed after the season.

·        Cannonball is removed after the season.
 


  Six Flags America 

1999:

·        Park is renamed Six Flags America.

·        Main Gate/International Plaza section split into Main Street 1776 (new entrance), Olde Boston and Nantucket areas.  Moroccan Village becomes Southwest Territory.

·        Two-Face: The Flip Side (Vekoma Invertigo roller coaster) opens in Southwest Territory where Python and World Wind were located.

·        A new Gotham City theme area opens behind Wild One including:

o       The Joker’s Jinx (Premier Rides LIM roller coaster).

o       Riddle Me This (stand-up roundup ride) was World Wind.

·        Rodeo (Huss Rodeo) opens in Coyote Creek.

·        Looney Tunes Movie Town (kiddie area) opens and includes the following rides (some rides may have part of A Day At The Circus kiddie area):

o       The Great Chase (Zamperla family/kiddie roller coaster)

o       Bugs Bunny’s Back Lot Trucking Company (kiddie convoy ride)

o       Looney Tunes Prop Warehouse (kiddie soft play area)

o       Daffy’s Movie Town Tours (kiddie Zamperla Crazy Bus)

o       Circus of the Stars (kiddie bumper cars)

o       Sylvester’s Pounce and Bounce (kiddie S & S Frog Hopper)

o       Elmer’s Around the World in 80 Seconds (kiddie balloon flight)

o       Foghorn Leghorn’s Tinsel Town Train (kiddie train ride)

o       Taz’s Film Works (kiddie swings ride)

o       The Animation Department (kiddie Carousel)

o       PePe Le Pew’s Tea Party (kiddie tea cups)

o       Movie Town Airport (kiddie airplane ride)


2000:

·        Superman – Ride Of Steel (Intamin Hypercoaster) opens in Gotham City.

·        Krypton Comet (Chance Chaos) opens in Gotham City.

·        Pehguin’s Polar Express (Chance Alpine Bobs) opens in Gotham City, was Curving Dervish?

·        Octopus (Sartori Polyp) opens in Nantucket.

·        Bumper Cars name changed to Los Coches Chocos.


2001:

·        Batwing (Vekoma Flying Dutchman flying roller coaster) opens in Gotham City.

·        Skycoaster (extra charge) opens in Gotham City.

·        Rainbow Falls name changed to The Deer Park Plunge.


 


2002:

·        Fast Lane (extra charge “line skip” system) is added to select rides in the park.

·        SkyEscaper is closed/removed from the park.


 

 


2003:

·        Penguin’s Blizzard River (Whitewater West Spinning Rapids water ride) opens in Gotham City.

·        Penguin’s Polar Express name changed to Alpine Bobs.

·        Tilt-A-Whirl name changed to The Tilt.


2004:

·        Movie Town Airport name changed to Yosemite Sam’s Hollywood Flight School.

·        Sonora Speedway name changed to Sonoco Speedway.

·        Admission this year is $36.99.  Parking is $9.00.

 

 


2005:

·        Paradise Island water park name changed to Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, changes include the following (3 new attractions):

o       Tornado (Proslide Technology Inc. Tornado) – funnel shaped tube slide that uses four person cloverleaf or two person "whirl wheel" tubes – NEW.

o       Bahama Blast (Proslide Technology Inc. Mammoth) – family raft ride – NEW

o       Buccaneer Beach (kiddie/family activity area) – NEW replaces Kid’s Cove.

o       Crocodile Cal’s Outback Beach House (family activity area) renamed Crocodile Cal’s Caribbean Beach House.

o       Tahiti Twister (two open/enclosed tube slides) renamed Paradise Plunge/Reef Runner.

o       Black Hole (enclosed body slide) renamed Hammerhead.

o       Bonzai Pipeline (half enclosed/half open body slide) renamed Mako.

o       Caribbean Cannonball Flume (small drop slide) renamed Calypso Cannonballs.

o       Kids’ Flumes (kiddie slides) renamed Bamboo Chutes.

o       Luau Loop (small body slide) renamed Vortex/Riptide.

o       Monsoon Lagoon (wave pool) renamed Hurricane Bay.

o       The Deer Park Plunge (red, blue, beige and yellow twisting body slides), each slides get their own names – Agnes, Bertha, Marge & Lola.

o       Private cabanas (available for rent) are also added.

o       Castaway Creek (lazy river) and Lily Pad Walk keep their names.

·        The Wall (extra charge rock wall) added near the entrance to Hurricane Harbor.

·        Sonoco Speedway name changed back to Sonora Speedway.

·        Mind Eraser and Joker's Jinx are repainted.

·        Admission this year is $39.99.  Parking is $10.00.
