  Indiana Beach

Ideal Beach

1926:

Ideal Beach opens and features ten rental boats, a refreshment stand, a bath house and a sand beach.

1927:

Toboggan-style water slide is added.

1930:

Ideal Beach Ballroom is added.

1933:

Roof Garden is added.

1937:

A 12-ft. wide pier is built around the beach area.

1940:

Roller Skating Rink is added.

1941:

Bowling Alley is added.

1944:

Miniature Golf is added.

1947:

Merry-go-Round is added.

Rolo Plane is added.

Ferris Wheel is added.

Indiana Beach

1952:

The park's name is changed to Indiana Beach.

Kiddyland (children's area) is added.

A boardwalk is constructed.

1954:

A submerged island is raised to create the southern portion of the park, named Paradise Island.

1959:

Aqua Theater is added.

1965:

Antique Autos (old time car ride) is added.

Dodgem (bumper cars) are added.

Sky Ride is added.

1966:

A new south parking lot is added and a 400-ft. pedestrian bridge is built connecting the lot to the park.

1969:

Mystery Mansion (dark ride) is added.

1971:

Galaxi (S.D.C. steel roller coaster) is added.

1978:

Superstition Mountain (dark ride) is added.

1983:

Dr. Frankenstein's Haunted Castle (walk-through haunted house) is added.

1984:

Tig'rr Coaster (Schwarzkopf "Jet Star" steel roller coaster) is added.

1986:

Rocky Rapids (log flume) is added.

1987:

Water park is added and includes the Action River and three water slides.

1989:

Giant Gondola Wheel (Chance Giant Wheel) is added.

1990:

Gunboat Tag is added.

Falling Star (Chance) is added.

1991:

The water park's Action River is lengthened and two new water tube slides are added.

1994:

Hoosier Hurricane (CCI wooden roller coaster with steel structure) is added.

1995:

Sky Coaster is added.

Nearly an acre of the lake is filled in on the north end of the park to make room for new attractions.

1998:

Big Flush (two intertwined tube water slides) is added.

1999:

Double Shot (75-ft. S&S shot/drop tower) is added.

Frog Hopper (S&S children's ride) is added.

2000:

Dr. Frankenstein's Haunted Castle is renovated.

2001:

Cornball Express (CCI wooden roller coaster with steel structure) is added.

2002:

Superstition Mountain dark ride is remodeled by CCI into a roller coaster.  The ride reopens as Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain.

 

 


 

2003:

Lost Coaster of Superstition Mountain is reprofiled to reduce roughness.

 

 


 

 

2004:

Air Crow (Larson Flying Scooters) is added.
